It is a reasonable idea to do your shopping for meal on the way from Faro to holiday villa at Modelo Supermarket in Silves. It is quite big so you cannot neglect it. It is open at least till 8pm and likely much later. Another Modelo is in Portimao. There is a cheaper German store Lidl in Silves as well. It is marked on Silves map in the Eastern part of town.
In all likelihood shopping can be done in Monchique. There are banks, a post office, a pharmacy, a fish and a vegetable market. Deal of the Fish done at 11am.Relatively low in price than on the coast. The grocery stores which also open on Sunday have delightful bread.You can get all news-paper including English newpapers are available in some shops after 11am.

Wine and Cigarettes

In Algarve you can take advantage of low prices for wine, liqueurs, spirits and cigarettes and you can take Wine and Cigarettes at home for personal consumption there is no limit.Red white and "green" wines especially the Dao wines, Santola, and Gatao are well priced and drinkable.

What to look out for

The best guys in Algarve include leather goods which are locally made, pottery, decorated tiles, crystal, copperware, embroidered tablecloth, filigree jewelery and cork products.

The leather goods - bags, belts, shoes - can be purchased everywhere - from local markets and smart boutiques. Usually at a fraction of the cost at home.
Each town and large village has a covered market place open every morning except Sunday. Local food, vegetables, souvenirs can be bought there.
