Villa Sol is a excellent 27 hole complex , ideal for holiday golf, a demanding track but suitable for all standards of golfers. Set within pine tree avenues this is an good value and enjoyable course.

Situated just to the east of Vilamoura port complex toward the Quinta do Lago courses.

The Villa Sol Golf Club has more of a members club feel to it than the Oceanico stable of 5 golf courses which are set in Vilamoura itself. Perhaps not so well know as these and without the luxury of the Val do Lobo complex, this course none the less is a fine golf course and excellent value for money

Opened in 1991 and designed by David Steel, the Villasol course has a level off maturity that gives the feeling it has been around a lot longer. David Steel has used the natural terrain and existing pine forests to create a lovely natural setting for this challenging course.

If you have played the Villamoura Old Course you will enjoy this track. Both are high quality where the designers have kept earth moving to a minimum and used the existing trees to create a very natural feeling environment.

The course is a little difficult to find if you a driving there, though it is part of the group of golf courses that are covered by the free courtesy service, or a short taxi drive from the port.

The single story club house has a small but adequate visitors changing room and a nice bar with a terrace overlooking the 18th, which attracts both golfers and non-golfers for lunch, and is a nice relaxing environment for a post round beer.

The course has a good grass driving range which is a short distance from the club house, tokens can bought from the check-in reception.

If you playing stoke play you need to keep the ball on the fairway on this course, even if it means the drive stays in the bag.

The course starts with 4 long challenging par 4’s with tight fairways, especially the first tee shot. There are some lovely holes on the front nine, especially the 6th with is a long par 5 from a elevated tee to a fairway protect by a lake half way along and a difficult approach to the green.

The back nine are a little shorter and not quite so tough. If your making a late charge for the winning score the 17th is a great risk and reward hole. A short par 4 down the narrowest of fairways, reachable in one for long hitters, but you have to be staight.

Villasol held the Portuguese Open in 1992 and 1993, which is mark of its quality and toughness. The course marshals are justly proud of its pedigree and although the course is not as highly groomed as some of the new championship course, this should not detract from its challenge and quality.
